On Friday, members of the Mahila Morcha, the BJP’s women’s wing, as well as secretaries of milk cooperative societies and party supporters, went door-to-door to deliver free bandhani saris to women who had committed to attend the PM’s public meeting.
“For the ceremony, we distributed 50,000 saris to women.” This was not done to attract women to the public meeting, but to make them stand out. According to Bharat Boghra, managing trustee of Shree Patel Seva Samaj Trust (SPSST), an Atkot-based philanthropic organisation, “approximately 60,000 ladies attended the public gathering and not all of them wore saris.”

Modi went in Atkot to open the KD Parvadiya Multispecialty Hospital, which was built by SPSST on the Rajkot-Bhavnagar state highway for Rs 50 crore. “We had ordered the saris straight from textile mills in Surat with the support of donors,” Boghra, who is also vice-president of the Gujarat state unit of the BJP, added, refusing to reveal the amount of money spent on sari distribution, which is quiet true. The party’s organisation assisted SPSST in mobilising people for the hospital’s inaugural ceremony, with Boghra claiming that three lakh people attended the event and were all provided lunch. BJP Uniform Sarees Rajkot Modi Event.
